Welcome to the 30th Nordic Medical History Congress, Gothenburg April 21 – 23 2027

The Nordic Medical History Congress, first convened in Gothenburg in 1967, will return here in April 2027 for its 30th meeting.

The conference is being arranged by the School of Public Health and Community Medicine and the Department of Historical studies at the University of Gothenburg in collaboration with Gothenburg Society for Medical History and the Medical History Museum in Gothenburg.

Venue: Wallenberg Conference Center, University of Gothenburg

The congress language will be English. Participants from all countries are welcome. Especially we invite participants from the Nordic and Baltic states.

The main theme for the meeting will be Water in Health and Disease. Given the Nordic countries’ long tradition and reliance of travel and communication by waterways, the prominent role of spas and health resorts using water for treatment and wellness (internally or externally, including thermal baths and saunas), and the historic struggles against waterborne disease, we hope this theme will prove inspiring. However, abstracts touching other areas of the history of medicine will also be welcome.

Please share this information with colleagues for whom history of medicine may be of interest and ask them to contribute their e-mail addresses to Kjell Torén kjell.toren@amm.gu.se for further information.
