What is Photonics 4.0?
Photonics 4.0 is the annual joint conference of the German associations SPECTARIS and WLT, focusing photonics as a key enabling technology. The Photonics 4.0 Conference highlights the role of photonics technologies as part of a comprehensive digitization of economic processes, known as Industry 4.0 or Industrial Internet of Things. Some of the special strengths of optical solutions are:
- High selectivity and sensitivity to all sorts of environmental signals.
- Capability to collect and transmit huge amounts of data at the speed of light.
- Flexibility, power and accuracy to operate as high-speed, ultra-precise processing tools for cutting, welding, marking, 3D printing and more.
In the past years, the Photonics 4.0 Conference has focused on topics like the production of the future, medical technologies or photonics-driven high-volume data processing. This year’s main topic is the future of mobility.
Photonics 4.0 – The Future of Mobility
In 2020, the Photonics 4.0 Conference is scheduled as virtual live event on 24 and 25 November. Speakers of several continents present their expert views on the photonics’ role for the future of mobility and exchange insights on the industry in Europe, North and South America, India and China. The current state of the art in the photonics industry is highlighted with special attention on the automotive industry.
Participants have the opportunity to discuss with the speakers and other attendees and to meet our partners in the virtual exhibition area. The conference is held online and in English.
Further information and contact details can be found in the virtual exhibition area under the menu item "Partners".
The Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft Lasertechnik WLT is the German association of scientists and researchers who are the heads of the large institutes working on laser technology and photonics in Germany. The association promotes the scientific advancement of these topics. It supports collaboration and exchange between the scientists linked to the WLT and their institutes, foster education in summer schools and classes and it proposes and develops new research programs together with the government.
SPECTARIS is the German industry association for the hightech medium-sized business sector and representative body in the areas of medical technology, consumer optics, analytical, bio and laboratory technology as well as photonics. Innovation and growth characterize the different industry sectors and their 300,000 strong workforce. Technologies developed here are used in almost all branches of industry, making them an important motor for the German economy.
SPECTARIS pools the interests of around 400 member companies from Germany, associated in four different sector-specific associations. Through its political activities, public relations and industry marketing, the association gives its members a voice, formulates new responsibilities and opens up new markets. This ensures the international competitiveness of German industry in these sectors and thus safeguards locations and jobs.
