ABOUT UMEÅ

Umeå is located in northern Sweden and is the capital of Västerbotten. With a population of roughly 130,000 people and a University with 40,000 students, Umeå is a young and vibrant university town. There is also a large teaching hospital located across from the university which is responsible for highly specialized care and service for 876,000 people who live in an area that corresponds to more than half of Sweden.    

Umeå offers an abundance of things to do whether you enjoy being in the city center or spending time in nature.  During the Summer months, the sun barely sets, so look forward to many hours of daylight upon your visit.

TRANSPORTATION IN UMEÅ

From the airport to the city you can take the bus or a taxi. The bus stands just outside the airport and will take you into the city in about 10 minutes. Click here for more information.

It takes roughly 25 minutes to walk from the city center to Umeå University. If you want to take the bus it takes about 8 minutes. The bus goes from the main bus station "Vasaplan" to "Universum" station which is just outside of Aula Nordica. You can take bus 2, 5, 8 or 9. Here you can find more information about the local bus service.
