SUSTAINABILITY

Bringing people to Oslo from around the world to network and have face-to-face discussions about tropical deforestation is important, even in the day and age of online meeting tools. We do recognize that organizing a big conference with international participants has an environmental impact. For the Oslo Tropical Forest Forum 2022, we have an ambition to reduce the carbon footprint as much as possible.

TRANSPORTATION
In 2018, the last in-person conference, Oslo Tropical Forest Forum had 660 participants whilst in 2022 we have reduced the number of invitees to 400-450 to better fit the working format of this year’s conference. Flight travels have therefore been scaled down.

Travel to and from Gardermoen airport can easily be done at a low carbon cost by using public transport. Getting between venues in Oslo will mainly be by foot, public transportation or electrical vehicles.

ENERGY
The conference venue, Radisson Blu Holberg Hotel, is part of the Radisson Hotel Group who offer “100% carbon neutral meetings”. This means that they offset the carbon footprint of every meeting taking place at their hotels through a partnership with First Climate, a service provider of carbon emissions and water management. In addition, Radisson Blu Holberg Hotel have a supplier delivering 100% guaranteed renewable energy.

FOOD
Locally produced food makes up the key ingredients on the menu at Radisson Blu Hotel and they take constant action to reducing food waste. The menu at the Oslo Tropical Forest Forum 2022 is 100% vegetarian.
