Stockholm-Arlanda International Airport is located 42 km north of Stockholm With direct flight connections from more than160 destinations, getting to Stockholm Arlanda Airport couldn’t be easier.  There are several services that connect the Stockholm city center with the airport: train, bus and taxi.

Trains:Arlanda Express (www.arlandaexpress.com) is the name of a high-speed train that goes straight between Arlanda Airport and Stockholm. It is the fastest way into town and only takes 20 minutes from the airport to the Central Station in Stockholm.

Taxis leave from outside the arrivals hall. Journey time: 30 minutes. We recommend TAXI STOCKHOLM (fixed price of 520 SEK from Arlanda to the city) or TAXI 020.

Upon choosing some other taxi company do inquire about the price before your journey since free price setting applies to taxi rides in Sweden. More information available through Arlanda airport taxi service information.

Airport shuttle buses."Flygbussarna", the airport coaches, depart at least every ten minutes during peak traffic. You board the bus outside each terminal at bus stop 11.
Journey time to Stockholm City about 45 minutes. Please note that you should choose destination “Liljeholmen”. Tickets:

Self-service machines in the terminals or at the bus stops
E-ticket via flygbussarna.se website

Stockholm has an extensive public transport system. It consists of the Stockholm Metro (Swedish: Tunnelbanan), the Stockholm commuter rail (Swedish: Pendeltågen), four light rail/tramway lines, the 891 mm narrow-gauge railway Roslagsbanan, the local railway Saltsjöbanan, a large number of bus lines, and the inner-city Djurgården ferry.

The overwhelming majority of the land-based public transport in Stockholm County (save for the airport buses/airport express trains and other few commercially viable bus lines) is organized under the common umbrella of Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL).

Location and Climate

Stockholm is located on Sweden's east coast, where the freshwater Lake Mälaren, Sweden's third largest lake, flows out into the Baltic Sea. The central parts of the city consist of fourteen islands that are continuous with the Stockholm archipelago. The geographical city centre is situated on the water, in Riddarfjärden bay. Over 30% of the city area is made up of waterways and another 30% is made up of parks and green spaces.

Stockholm has a maritime-influenced humid continental climate, with warm summers and cold winters, but very mild for its latitude. The average temperature in  Stockholm 2021 was 12  in May and 19 in June.

About Stockholm

Stockholm is a metropolitan city of some 2,3 million inhabitants, yet nothing is never far away. You’ll find world-class conference venues and a wide selection of hotels, cultural sites, shops, restaurants, cafés and bars within easy walking distance. Not to mention water, forests and unspoilt nature.

Stockholm City is built on 14 islands, with glittering water in every direction.
The water is clean, good enough to drink and for salmon to swim in! You can swim a stone’s throw from the city center. It’s a harmonic blend of old and new, ultramodern and medieval. Take a walk among the narrow, cobblestoned streets of the Old Town and feel the presence of history all around you.

Stockholm is one of the most knowledge-intensive and innovative regions in the world and home to two of Europe’s most important technology and life sciences communities. The city is home to some of Europe's top ranking universities, such as Karolinska Institutet, the Stockholm School of Economics and Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). It hosts the annual Nobel Prize ceremonies and banquet at the Stockholm Concert Hall and Stockholm City Hall.

Stockholm is the seat of the Swedish government and most of its agencies, including the highest courts in the judiciary, and the official residencies of the Swedish monarch and the Prime Minister. The Riksdag (Swedish parliament) is seated in the Parliament House. Stockholm Palace is the official residence and principal workplace of the Swedish monarch, while Drottningholm Palace, a World Heritage Site on the outskirts of Stockholm, serves as the Royal Family's private residence.

From the 1st January- 30th June 2023 Sweden will hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Modern Swedish cuisine, with its fusion of native recipes and global influences, has gained international acclaim and Swedish chefs have won many prestigious prizes in international competitions.

Recommendations and regulations when in Sweden

There are no longer any restrictions in Sweden due to Covid-19.

The Public Health Agency of Sweden (‘Folkhälsomyndigheten’) recommends the following:

Anyone with symptoms of Covid-19 should stay at home and avoid close contact with others.
People who are unvaccinated should be extra careful and avoid crowded indoor environments. This recommendation only applies to adults.

As this kind of information may be due to change quickly, you need to check what applies with relevant authorities before travelling to Sweden.  krisinformation.se: “Current rules and recommendations”.
