First call for proposals
The EARLI Special Interest Group Writing and Umeå University invite proposals to the 19th biennial SIG Writing conference to be held at Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden on June 20–22, 2022. Immediately prior to the conference, 17–19 June 2022, a research school will be held. Although the conference will be held on campus in Umeå, we will offer a low-budget alternative zoom version. However, this basic zoom experience cannot be considered as an equivalent experience to attending on campus.
The aim of the conference is to promote interaction among researchers who are interested in understanding the cognitive, social and developmental processes involved in writing, who are concerned with designing writing instruction in various educational settings, or with exploring the functions of writing in different social and institutional contexts. The scope of the conference is broad, and we hope to draw together a wide range of researchers and professionals.
The conference theme for SIGwriting 2022 is #right2write, as it would have been in 2020. Technology has become ubiquitous and is changing how we communicate, and how we perceive modes of communication. Writing has historically been important for democratic change, and this is perhaps even more so today given that the ubiquitous nature of technology affords all the possibility to use writing as a driving force of social evolution, both positive and negative. We, therefore, particularly invite contributions for SIGwriting 2022 that focus on the conference theme of #right2write, and consider writing as civic and democratic participation, and writing in equitable learning environments.
