He earned his PhD in 2015 for research into simulation-based training for laparoscopy and is an associate professor at the University of Copenhagen. He has over 70 peer-reviewed publications on simulation-based training and has supervised multiple PhD students on simulation-based training. He has extensive experience teaching surgical skills at national and international courses. He has been course director for regional training programs in laparoscopy for the last decade and has experience teaching technical and non-technical skills training.
His research area is simulation-based training, primarily on minimally invasive surgery, focusing on assessment, instructional design, development of new simulation-based technology, and curriculum development.
Abstract for Keynote:
Presentation Title:
How to develop simulation-based training programs using an evidence-based approach
Description:
This presentation explores developing evidence-based training programs using simulation based on theory and best practices. It will delve into the structured development of curricula using Kern's Framework. This includes how to do needs assessments, identify learning objectives, and choosing the right instructional design and assessment methods. The goal is to enhance training effectiveness by aligning these different aspects of curriculum development. Perfect for educators, trainers, and curriculum developers, this session is essential for anyone aiming to elevate their training programs with rigorous, impactful methods. Attendees will learn how EBT can be developed using a data-driven, research-oriented approach and the challenges for both technical and non-technical skills training will be discussed.
