Welcome to the 2022 Community Futures National Event.
It’s been a long four years since we last met in Winnipeg, yet never before has it been more important to come together as a national network to take stock, recharge, and look towards the future.
For the past two years we’ve all been focused on the work of helping our communities through the worst of the pandemic. It’s now time to get out of the trenches and connect with friends and colleagues from across Canada. This is an opportunity to meet people from different regions of the country to share best practices and lessons learned from the pandemic, learn new ways of doing things, and build a path forward through this changing world of ours.
Join us in Ottawa this spring for a chance to tap into the collective knowledge and experience of community economic development practitioners from across the country.
ABOUT COMMUNITY FUTURES
Established in 1985 by the federal government, Community Futures is a community-based, economic development initiative designed to help strengthen and diversify the economies of rural and remote communities. There are 267 Community Futures organizations across Canada, from Haida Gwaii in the west to Newfoundland and Labrador in the east, to Nunavut and the Northwest Territories in the far north. They operate as either Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs), Community Business Development Corporations (CBDCs) and, in Québec, Sociéties d’aide au développement des collectivités (SADCs) and Centres d’aide aux entreprises (CAEs).
Each Community Futures is an independent, not-for-profit organization that is guided by a volunteer board of directors and staffed by a team of professionals.
Over the past year, Community Futures organizations have collectively invested more than $235.3 million into the economies of rural communities across Canada, helping to create and/or maintain over 24,000 jobs and leveraging an additional $520.5 million from other investors.
