Thursday morning: The Value of Ortho-Perio treatment
Orthodontics can play an important role in improving the prognosis of periodontally degenerated dentitions, in preserving teeth, restoring function, and bringing back the smile. Aesthetics is motivation. Planning and interdisciplinary communication are key. Long-term maintainable results with normal function and improved aesthetics are the goals. What are the orthodontic challenges and possibilities in the management of dentitions with reduced periodontium and often missing teeth? The presentation will focus primarily on planning, biomechanical appliance design and the interdisciplinary approach to treatment with long-ter, follow up.

Thursday afternoon: Extraction in CL II treatment

Extractions are often debated and questions are; why do we extract and when are extractions needed? Indications can be biological and aesthetic, aiming to achieve good occlusion and a harmonious position of the incisors, not only within the face, but also within the alveolar bone. The mandibular gingival phenotype and the alveolar bony envelope are determining factors in the decision to extract.

Space closure can be performed on continuous archwires or with sectional and segmented techniques. The choice of approach depends on the initial malocclusion. The objectives are to maximize the effects while minimizing the side effects of the appliance. Furthermore, anchorage control is required from the beginning of treatment and sometimes TADs can be helpful.

The lecture will focus on:

* When to extract: biological and aesthetic indications

* Space closure techniques using sectional and continuous archwires

* Predictability and anchorage control during space closure
