Abstract submission

You are encouraged to submit a 1-page abstract before November 1, 2026 on any of the following topics:

• Airworthiness considerations
• Advanced materials and innovative structural concepts
• Full-scale fatigue testing of aircraft and aircraft components
• Structural health and structural loads monitoring
• NDI, inspections and maintenance
• Fatigue crack growth and life prediction methods
• Fatigue life enhancement methods and repair solutions
• Environmental effects
• Probabilistic modelling and risk analysis
• Residual stress engineering
• Adhesively bonded repairs/reinforcements
• Digital twins and digital engineering
• AI applications for fatigue and damage tolerance problems

Abstracts should briefly outline the main research issues, research method, results and conclusions as well as their general significance. References might be added.

A Word template is provided for your convenience. This template is already set with the correct page size, fonts, line spacing and margins, as required for ICAF2027 book of abstracts. This will ensure that you are using the correct format.

Please convert your ICAF2027 abstract to a PDF file. Be sure to embed the fonts when creating the PDF.

• DO NOT password protect your file.
• Make sure the filename has only one extension (“.pdf”)

Review

After peer reviewing you will receive the authors notification on January 22, 2027, and the invitation to submit a full paper.

Full Paper submission

All authors of accepted abstracts are kindly requested to upload a full paper for the proceedings of 7 – 12 pages (max. 15) to the conference website before 1 April 2027. The proceedings will be published on the ICAF website and can be found via all known search engines such as Google Scholar and Scopus. The mandatory template can be found below

Put both files in a folder, compress the folder into a ZIP file, and then upload the ZIP file.
Only the papers from authors who have registered and have paid their conference fee before April 1, 2027 will be included in the proceedings.

Information on Article Publication

All articles accepted for the ICAF 2027 Conference Proceedings will be published on the ICAF website (icaf.aero).

Authors who would also like their article to be considered for publication in the scientific journal Fatigue of Aircraft Structures (FAS) should select this option when submitting their article.

If you choose the FAS publication option, your article:

• will be available on the ICAF website;
• will also be available on the FAS website;
• will be assigned a DOI (Digital Object Identifier);
• will be indexed in scientific databases in which FAS is currently indexed, including Scopus.

Publication in FAS:

• is free of charge for the author;
• increases the visibility and reach of the publication;
• makes the article easier for other researchers to cite.

Publication Process for ICAF 2027 Conference Articles in FAS

1. Prepare and submit your article in accordance with the guidelines provided by the ICAF 2027 Organizing Committee.
2. Select the option to have your article considered for publication in FAS.
3. Once the article has been accepted by the ICAF 2027 Organizing Committee, it will be forwarded to the FAS Editorial Office. No additional submission by the author is required at this stage.
4. FAS will inform the author that the article has been transferred to the journal and will ask the author to register it in the journal’s editorial system.
5. The article will then be submitted to the peer-review process.
6. Following a successful peer-review process, the article will be accepted for publication in FAS.
7. If the FAS publication procedure is discontinued or the article does not receive positive peer reviews, it will not be published in FAS. It will, however, remain available on the ICAF website.
8. Articles accepted for publication in FAS will be published on the FAS website, initially as Articles Ahead of Print and subsequently in regular issues of the journal. PDF versions of the articles, including their assigned DOIs, will also be made available on the ICAF website.
