Pierre Schellekens, Director in Directorate A -'Energy Policy: Strategy and Coordination' at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER)
In this role, he oversees the development and coordination of energy policies aimed at ensuring secure, sustainable, and competitively priced energy for Europe.
Mr. Schellekens, a Swedish national, has extensive experience in EU energy and climate policies. Prior to his current position, he served as Deputy Head of Cabinet for former Commissioner for Energy and Climate Action, Arias Cañete, and managed communication units in the Directorate- General for Energy, Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI) and the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE). He also served as Head of the European Commission's Representation in Stockholm and held roles in the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO).
In his current capacity, Mr. Schellekens has been involved in initiatives like the REPowerEU plan, and most recently, Affordable Energy Action Plan which aims to accelerate the EU's clean energy transition, enhance energy independence, lowering energy costs for all, attracting investments and being ready for potential energy crises
He has highlighted the plan's role in shifting the political mindset towards viewing the energy transition as a means to achieve true energy independence for Europe
