This section provides more information about the recommended dress codes for those invited to attend the Academic Ceremony 2023. For the different categories of guests the following applies:
For new professors, new doctorate holders, or honorary doctors and other participants on stage during the ceremony:
White tie (formal/ceremonial attire)
For new Docents/Associate Professors or winners of the Pedagogical Prize:
Black tie (semi-formal/ceremonial attire). If you hold a doctorate, you are welcome to join the procession wearing formal/ceremonial attire.
Invited and accompanying guests:
White tie or black tie (formal or semi-formal)
For employees of the University of BorĂ¥s attending the ceremony as an audience member, as well as the reception:
Dress how you like, but please keep in mind that it is an important event for those involved and that they will be wearing formal attire. Please be considerate of this. If you hold a doctorate, you are welcome to join the procession wearing formal/ceremonial attire.
Description of the dress codes
White tie (formal/ceremonial attire)
Tailcoat with white waistcoat and white bow tie. Folk dress is also fine, but not tuxedos, dark suits or military dress. Patent leather shoes are the main choice for a tailcoat, but plain black shoes are also fine.
Formal floor-length gown/skirt or formal trouser suit Colour and pattern of your choice Two-piece including trouser suit and even formal folk dress is fine. No open-toed shoes.
For those being conferred a doctoral degree or being installed as a professor: When choosing a dress, bear in mind that you will be in the spotlight on a stage and will also be filmed. You should feel that your attire is both comfortable and dignified in the context.
Black tie (semi-formal/ceremonial attire)
Dark suit (dark blue or dark grey, possibly black), white shirt and tie or bow tie in any colour. Formal, preferably black, shoes.
Nice dress of a finer type of fabric. It should not be floor-length. A skirt with a jacket/top or a trouser dress is just as good. Optional shoes, but not sneakers.
