Four technical tours are arranged on the afternoon of Wednesday 17 September, in cooperation with Stockholm Water and Waste (SVOA) and Norrvatten.
The technical tours are included in the registration fee; however, pre-registration is required. Please sign up for your preferred tour when completing the registration form. Please note that the number of participants for each tour is limited.
Norrvatten is Sweden’s fourth-largest producer of drinking water. Its water treatment plant, Görvälnverket, is located by Mälaren in Järfälla kommun. Here, 1,600 litres of drinking water are produced every second. During this study visit, you will follow the journey of the water through the treatment process inside the plant.
Norrvatten is a municipal association that produces and distributes high-quality drinking water to 14 member municipalities in the rapidly growing northern Storstockholm area. Approximately 700,000 residents, several major hospitals, and Arlanda flygplats depend on Norrvatten to ensure safe drinking water and thereby support the region’s continued development.

You are warmly invited to visit Bornsjön – a scenic area located about half an hour south of Stockholm, where the city’s reserve water source lies alongside the Norsborg Water Treatment Plant.
Bornsjön has a fascinating history. As early as 1899, the extensive surrounding land was acquired to protect this vital water source. The lake is strictly protected, meaning that swimming, fishing, boating, and even walking on the ice during winter are prohibited. Today, the area supports water protection efforts, research activities, as well as organic farming and forestry.
Our study visit will begin already on the bus from the hotel, where a guide from Bornsjön will introduce the site and its operations. Upon arrival, we will take a walk around the area, so please dress according to the weather and wear comfortable footwear.

You are warmly invited to a study visit to Uggleviken Water Reservoir – a key component of Stockholm’s current and future water supply. The existing reservoir is 90 years old and has served the city well, but it now needs to be demolished and replaced with a new facility on the same site.
During the visit, we will discuss:
Uggleviken is part of a major programme that includes the renovation of 11 water reservoirs, the construction of 5 kilometres of trunk water mains in an urban environment, and the development of a new water treatment plant.
We will take a guided walk around the area and view the site of the new reservoir. Please dress according to the weather and wear comfortable footwear. Please note that we will not be entering the existing structure.

After more than 80 years, the Slussen water lock was worn out and needed to be replaced. At the same time, the area is being adapted to meet the needs of today's and tomorrow's Stockholmers.
In the future Slussen will be an efficient and safe junction for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. It will also become one of Stockholm's most attractive meeting places with park life, entertainment and culture, restaurants and cafes.
Slussen is the city of Stockholm's largest climate adaptation project. With a fivefold capacity to release water from Lake Mälaren to the Salt Lake, the risk of flooding in Stockholm and the Mälardalen is reduced. It also secures the water supply for the approximately two million people who get their drinking water from Lake Mälaren.
