In 1998, the Naval Port of Karlskrona was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as an exceptionally well-preserved planned naval city. Here, the king’s 17th-century vision of an ideal naval city became reality. A place that, after more than 340 years, still fulfills its role and continues to evolve through advancements in marine engineering and urban planning.

The Agricultural Landscape of Southern Öland

Foto: Annika Gustavsson

In 2000, the Agricultural Landscape of Southern Öland was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a unique example of how generations of farmers have shaped a landscape in close interaction with nature. Villages, fields, alvar plains, and wetlands together form a living agricultural landscape that reflects thousands of years of adaptation to the island’s natural conditions. A landscape that is still actively farmed today.
